Duncan Madaris Hill was born in High Point, North Carolina, and now lives and works in Washington, DC. He received his M.F.A. in Photographic & Electronic Media from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014, and a B.A. in Film Studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2009. In 2017, Hill was an artist-in-residence at Foundation Obras in the Alentejo region of Portugal.
Much of Hill’s photography explores human-altered landscapes and artificial lighting. Aside from still photography, Hill has worked on film projects that have been showcased at festivals across the United States, from Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, NC, to the Oregon Film Festival in Portland, OR.
