Vernacular Farm Reconstruction: The Main Building
The farm is situated in Czech Republic in a small town Kozlovice, in the westernmost outpost of Wallachia. For 300 years just one family lived here and the farm was changing with them through the whole history. In the beginning of 20th century there was one brick building with a traditional Wallachian disposition and two wooden buildings: barn and stables.
During 50s rough interventions was made, which demadged the historical development a lot. The current investor together with an architect concluded that all three buildings must be torn down, but they also decided to respect its history and partialy reconstruct the farm as a replica (the main residential building exteriors), in direct connection with the local vernacular architecture (the barn) and apply contemporary architectural elements and building techniques (especially the house of housekeeper). Thus a very interesting postmodern complex was designed.
I was trying to achieve result which - raising from inspiration sources in vernacular interior - will cause mainly modern impression and will not complicate any practical needs of current owner but will conotate its historical basis in the same time. I’ve chosen rather than some concrete features certain functional principles which are convenient even for contemporary living needs.
Vernacular Farm Reconstruction: The Barn

The most complicated brief in terms of practical functions’ satisfaction was the design of the barn. Investor wants to combine in a one large space the function of garage with occasional holding of parties or banquets while inviting almost two hundred of people.
