FINANCIAL FITNESS BOOTCAMP 2019 CAMPAIGN

Whether employees were just starting their career or are preparing for retirement, the 2019 Financial Fitness Bootcamp (FFB) for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) provided quality education on financial wellness. LANL’s Communication Arts and Services team (CAS) was asked to promote this three-day event.
According to our research, many people put off the task of financial planning in favor of seemingly more pressing matters. Financial planning can also make people anxious because it anticipates many unknown personal and economic factors. These insights informed CAS’s creative strategy for encouraging LANL employees to attend the event. CAS designed a series of illustrated messages that posed critical financial questions to LANL employees with a humorous but authentic tone.
Each message combined common scenes from around the lab with a headline and visual twist specific to financial wellness. A chemistry lab, campus picnic bench and virtual reality simulator were populated with people of various professions, genders, and ethnicity that make up LANL’s workforce.
As the event drew nearer, CAS developed and released posters, pop-up banners, outdoor banners, screen graphics, and an online course catalog for all of the Bootcamp events.
A total of 1,101 employees participated in an average of 3 courses each. Key results from a post-event survey include: 68% took action on the course material, 43% rated the overall event as “good,” and 50% rated the overall event as “excellent.” With the help of this campaign, LANL employees are on track to maintain financial fitness throughout all stages of their career.
