Project NEKO is a designer toy that embodies the problems of modern society. NEKO's image and message can reflect upon the situations occurring around the world.
A person by itself is aware of what he/she has been through and withholds the miseries of current and past behind the happy mask. Treating each other with respect and love, staying strong against violence in any form, racial discrimination, protecting the environment are the main call outs of NEKO for people around the globe.
Despite NEKO's facial expression may be perceived as surprised, shocked or joyful, initially the toy is an abstract image of a person with mental injuries/traumas that a person obtains both at an early age and/or consciously that are symbolized as a hole in the toy's chest. In addition, the typography on the toy's surface represents calmness, happy emotions, however, if looked thoroughly, there is another word locked inside a word that carries another meaning behind the positive message.
The existence of people with difficult pasts, their hard work over mental traumas, pains and sufferings to overcome are often neglected due to their disguise masks of happiness and joyfulness, and we as people around frequently overlook their inner experiences due to our selfishness, our day-to-day hustles and bustles. Thinking of all the above encouraged me to create this project as to remind the humanity of attentiveness and solicitude.
Racism
I am finding it hard to accept the things that are happening around the globe today. After all the evolution we have been through, I consider it as a shame for humankind to still have an issue of racism in the 21st century.
Equality, freedom and the strive for further education and development should become part of our DNA and this is the only way we can continue to progress and fight current day global issues as poverty, domestic and child violence, environmental issues.
Any hatred obtains hatred in return. However, a kind gesture of respect can change a lot. Let's be kinder to each other to help solve global problems and be the change together.
I plan to hold exhibitions in the near future, but the main focus will be the NEKO toy as an art object. I am eager dedicate the money raised from NEKO's sales to finance funds that fight against violence, child abuse along with charity funds that help children. I believe that contemporary art does not only expand people's consciousness, but also has benefits to offer for society in the form of good deeds and intentions.
