Low-pressure mold for the injection of ceramic specimens

The mold is mainly made of aluminium. The lid is made out of polycarbonate, allowing one to see through it. Each injection allows the production of 10 specimens.

Briefly speaking, the gelcasting injection requires the use of a monomer suspension, dispersant, ceramic material particles, initiator and catalyst. The main goal is to obtain an agglomerate of ceramic material united by a polymeric material, allowing the manufacturing of complex geometries of ceramics.

Technical drawings were generated from the Computer Aided Design model, which were later used to create the real mold for use in the ceramic materials laboratory of Centro Universitário da FEI.
