Project 1: Isometric Illustration

For this project, I chose to build an isometric Macbook Pro laptop. I created the keyboard, screen, and buttons as flat objects. I used the tutorial videos and learned to program action buttons based on these lessons for the top, left, and right planes. Using these buttons, I created my isometric computer. I downloaded the recommended plug-ins from www.astutegraphics.com and used the subscript tool to easily connect the anchor points. With these helpful additions, I was able to build my illustration.

The tutorial videos were extremely helpful. I continue to learn more and more each week that I wished I had known years ago. I decided on this particular project due to the challenge of the extruding and protruding parts of the keyboard. I wanted to create my own version of a laptop and try to nail down the actions required in these challenges. I found the keys to be much easier than the mouse pad, but it did take me a bit to figure out exactly what was happening in the tutorial videos in order to replicate it. I also found it a bit difficult to size my screenshot correctly in order to make it fit properly when skewed and rotated.

When applying color, I used mainly different shades and transparency levels of grays. I also used gradients to show the 3D lighting effects and the screen reflection on the keyboard. Overall, I was quite happy with how my Macbook Pro illustration turned out, especially since this was my first attempt at using quite a few new tools learned these past two weeks.
