I entered a competition to design a logo for the alumni page of my high school.

Een maal 'n Affie, altyd 'n Affie.

My design process: The colours were used directly from the school colours; the oval shape was taken directly from the school emblem, incorporating the sense of the unity even after you matriculated; the rose, which is symbolic to the school, was used as the main focus point. The idea was that I would use the rose to symbolize all the wonderful, beautiful and sometimes, delicate women, that have walked the halls at Affies. We will always be part of the school, but we needed our own identity, hence why I didn't incorporate the actual emblem of the Boerenooientjie; the slogan for the school is "Ek sien haar wen" (I see her win), but seeing as this is an alumni logo, I changed the slogan to "Ek sien haar steeds wen" (I still see her winning).

We, as women, need to be strong for one another, we need to build each other up instead of tearing each other down. A white rose represents youth, loyalty and everlasting love - a sense of what it feels like to be a part of a school that connected its pupils. We were sisters, we are sisters.
