Skateboarding Magazine - A subculture zine Project

S for Skateboarding
A participatory design based subculture zine
The magazine contains two features of skateboard culture which are camaraderie and inclusiveness and they are shown by a series of design including photography, illustration and graphics.

It is a stereotypical view of skateboard that some people considered it is so childish that not suitable for a fully-grown man. Moreover, another common stereotype is that the public considered the target players of skateboard are men rather than women. Therefore, age and gender are two main stereotypes to connect with skateboard culture. For many non-skaters simply considered skateboard as an entertainment activity, unexpectedly, skateboard has played an important role in those skaters’ life, as it can be seen as a kind of physical exercise, a leisure activity and also can be part of personal development.

The purpose of this project is to develop a graphic design touchpoint to showcase the uniqueness of the skatepark community and to evaluate its efficiency. In celebration of skate park community, and as skateboarding has been shaped and developed throughout the years, from an underground action sport gradually formed its own culture identity.
A skateboarding magazine has been developed as the most relevant graphic design campaign. (Agnes, 2019)
