quarantine illustration series: Sade Adu
The quarantine illustration series gave me an opportunity to create work based on people who have inspired me and helped to make me who I am today. It was time to honor the an amazing musical artist and probably one of my first crushes. I remember the very first time I saw the Smooth Operator video as a 9 year old. At the the time the only thing I could think was, "What is wrong with her lips!?!?". Then I got a little older and it just became, "HER LIPS!!!".
I went with a very classic and familiar pic. Sade is so cool I decided to go with a mostly cool color theme as well as paying homage to the denim outfit she wore in the pic. It also allowed me to emphasize her lips with a vibrant red along with the background. To add one more touch of color I thought it important to keep her earring gold.
