For context, like everyone else, 2020 has not been the best of years. Before our football season started, Rice and Washington State both cancelled their games with us due to various COVID-related reasons. Then, one week before we were scheduled to play Memphis, they had to cancel due to an number of COVID-positive cases on the football team. It was not a huge deal however, as within an hour of that game being cancelled, we had agreed to play Baylor in place of Memphis. However, less than 24 hours before kickoff with Baylor, they informed us that the game was going to have to be cancelled due to COVID-positive tests within their team. We moved to the following week with our opponent being North Texas. But once again, on Wednesday of that week, North Texas notified us about multiple positive COVID test results, and that for the fifth consecutive week, we would have our opponent cancel on us. As a team, staff, and community, we have done everything we are supposed to do in order to keep our team and staff members safe, and have even been able to virtually eliminate COVID from our facilities due to our frequent testing measures, disciplined protocols, and all members of the medical and cleaning staff doing their jobs, and us following their rules. So because of all of that, we are hungry for our first game to be played this season. With our game against Tulane scheduled to be played on October 8, I made this graphic with very popular images from various GIFs. The images portray excitement, anticipation, and shock (because we will finally get this game in, and because of recent events, that is "shocking" to us). The message and imagery just portray what we as Houston Cougars are thinking and saying....the first game of 2020 is FINALLY happening!
