Shelf project
Project brief
In this project I was required to create a shelf using given dimensions and paint it. The purpose of this exercise was to show my understanding in using wood working tools, wood joints, different kinds of materials, accuracy, painting surfaces and neatness when working on project.
 Final Submission
For this project I used MDF and body filler to create the curve where two MDF pieces meet. I also used finger joint for this project because it was more accurate and stronger compared to other types of wood joints.
A number of paint coats where applied after applying primer on both sides. I did a lot of precise sanding after every coat to achieve a smoot surface look as seen on the images.
Shelf details
These images show close details of my shelf.
Design Process
For my texture at the outer side I glued bandage strips and sugar as seen below. I also used tape to cover the sides of my shelf as we were instructed to leave it as it is and spray paint both sides with different colours.
