To Master - First Thoughts and Ideas
When given the brief 'Building a Better Future' I immediately started thinking about the future of the actual planet itself and how to save it from a climate catastrophe. As I feel this is one of the most important topics in the world right now as there isn't much time for everybody to change their ways and help to build a better future for everyone.

I began to research all of the different ways people can help the environment and the planet and came across quite basic actions that people can take. I decided I wanted to look beyond this but still use it as a guide to refine my search more.
Zero Waste shops

One of the biggest impacts I feel that people can have on building a better future is by reducing the amount of food, and packaging waste. There are a number of zero waste shops out there where you can take your own containers and fill them up with things such as pasta, rice, beans etc as well as things such as soap and toothpaste. These shops really help with the reduction of waste and I feel are really beneficial in building a better future for the human race. I could get in contact with some people who own these stores.
Beach Clean ups

I liked the sound of the volunteering side of it and I thought i would look into particular groups who volunteer their time to making a change and a difference. I looked into beach clean ups in particular around the UK, including the likes of Brighton and Blackpool.
Farmers Markets

I also looked into farmers markets and the difference between buying your produce from them as opposed to big supermarket chains. And the importance of buying locally. Farmers markets promote sustainability as the farmers who trade at them engage in sustainable farming practices to produce healthy food. They also minimise the amount of waste and pollution they create. Many use certified organic practices, reducing the amount of synthetic pesticides and chemicals that pollute our soil and water. Instead of buying produce from the supermarket shipped from all over the world, you're buying locally sourced items that are currently in season where you are.
Sustainable Restaurants

I looked into the idea of sustainable restaurants too. Places that limit the amount of food waste and also use local and fresh produce. One I found was called Greens in Manchester. They use food sourced daily from local markets so it's always fresh and in season. It is also vegetarian which also adds to its sustainability as a more plant based diet reduces water and land use, as well as lowering pollution and slowing down deforestation. There are many other restaurants that also do this, Greens is only one example.
