This timeline of pandemics hopes to puts into perspective where COVID-19 stands in comparison to other pandemics. Further, it hopes to reveal a bigger picture of pandemics and what they mean for the world.
By highlighting the death toll using the semi circles, we can see a general trend of decrease in death toll (mostly attributing to increase in hygienic practices and technology).
By categorizing the pandemics by their colours, we can see persistence and eradication of different "bugs" responsible for the pandemics. This hopes to draw specific attention to cholera and its many pandemics, despite the simple solution of clean water. Thus, there is more to pandemics than its biology, leading to a smaller section in the bottom right corner titled "Beyond the Biology." Within that section, I have decided to showcase some data on social factors of pandemics and how they can have varying impact on different populations.
