Drop Caps Letter

Drop Cap Letter
The Drop Cap Letter project was based on the Penguin Drop Caps which is a full alphabet in which the covers of some of the most famous books were recreated using just the first letter of the title or the author's name.
The book I recreated the cover for was The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. The story tells about a journalist who goes on a rich man's boat on a trip and there ends up being a murder in which she proceeds to interview people who were on the boat to try to figure out what really happened. I chose a couple of different routes to go, which was a more literary one as well as one with more meaning which needs more context to understand how it relates.
These iterations are focused more on the literary aspect of the book, including the boat, water, etc. I liked the ideas behind these, but felt like it needed something more.
The design for these iterations is based off of a Victorian style chair that is upholstered and very good quality. These iterations are based more on the sense that this boat is very high-end and expensive. Typically, people associate the high-end qualities with good things and happiness. If you have better things and the money to go on expensive trips, then nothing bad could happen, right? That's what many would typically think, but that is not always the case; similar to what happens in this book.
Initially, you get a fun, prosperous feeling from this design, but after the viewer would read the synopsis on the back, they would begin to have second thoughts on why the cover is what it is.
I decided to go with the second style for my final creation. I felt it had much more meaning than the latter and was more unique than what's been done before for stories like this one.
