I created Bonsai Icons for those that connect with gardening and the work of caring for a bonsai. Bonsais bring beauty into plant growing. It allows the gardener to show their creativity through shaping the trunk, the leaves, the branches. 

In the sketches above I tried to create different examples of styles used in the art of bonsaiing by using different shapes for the trunks and branches.  I wanted to show the different types of trees and bushes used. I tried to apply the process and different views seen of the bonsai. In oder to bring the images together I tried to make all shapes rounded with no sharp, pointed edges.

In my drafts I applied the different styles of plants used for bonsaiing and tried to show the upper angle seen of a bonsai. I tried to show details of each bonsai by creating individual leaves, petals, flowers, fruit, etc.

After talking with some peers I learned the black outline on my bonsais made the icons less appealing to the eye. Some also believed the upper view angle did not look like a bonsai.

For the final product I got rid of the black outlines giving the trees a more appealing look. I created several more bonsais showing more of the unique techniques and trees used in the art of bonsaiing.
