A JDM DREAM
Above you see some very poorly done sketches. While they look poorly done and without much thought they really helped to get my brain going. After sketching for 20 mins I had come up with several ideas that I wanted to implement into my project. I challenge anyone out there if you feel like you have no ideas what to make, choose a topic and start to sketch. You will be amazed at the ideas that will start to appear in your head.
This was my first draft going into this project, and I got some great feedback on it. One of the main concerns was how large my emblems on the front of the car were. So I tried to size them down as well as re doing the rear of my car. I felt like the lights were not large enough at first.
I present to you the JDM dream. My objective going into this project was to capture a small piece of my favorite car that exists, the 350Z. The amount of body lines and color this car has in person is incredible, you truly need to see one up close to appreciate how awesome it is.
The front of the 350z is incredible, it has so many lines and dips. I did my very best to try and capture the essence of the magnificent vehicle.
The rear of the 350z is getting somewhat dated in my opinion. Although it still catches your eyes when it drives by. I really tried to get the lights to pop as much as possible. Creating the shape of the rear was difficult, but with the help of the shape builder tool I was able to combine several shapes to create something that looked similar to the true rear of one.
Behold the center console of the 350Z! Since this car is from the early 2000's most of them have the old school radio, with large buttons and knobs. I tried to capture the color and look of the radio and console.
The door on this sports car was really simple to create. You simply take a rectangle and slowly curve it till you have kind of a wave shape. When you see one of these doors in person they look so cool, I did everything I could to try and capture that. Unfortunately I don't think my vector graphic can show all the beauty of one of these.
The door handle is similar to the door. Several rectangles that have been curved into a really awesome design.
This is mirror on the 350Z. Its super simple and has a couple buttons. It was super easy to design a couple rectangles and curve them to make the mirror design.
This is a simple strut bar in the back of the car. Its there for looks but also stability. With a simple z logo and 2 rectangles combined together it was fairly simple to create.
Looking at the seats the car has they are fairly bland. So I decided to upgrade the look with some RECARO seats. These are used in most JDM cars for racing. Creating this was a little more difficult that I thought at first. Its main shape is a rectangle same as all the other icons. Using the shape builder I combined some squares that I curved a bit and along came this beautiful seat.
The shifter on this car is kind of simple, but it made for a bit of a challenge. Its a circle combined with a rectangle that I have to slim down a bit towards the bottom.
The mirror on these cars has a strange design. I tried to get it as close as possible. Although I feel like this is my weakest icon. I really could not get it to look right.
The steering wheel on the Z is pretty straight forward. Its a wheel with the logo in the middle, which is pretty much what you get here.
The wheels on the Z are very unattractive in my opinion. So tried to go with an RPF design for my wheels. I think they turned out pretty good for the most part.
Here is the final images all together. I feel like I have accomplished my objective and created a small piece of the car. I hope you enjoyed the vector graphics and my journey in creating these graphics.
