VOL 2
This artwork was created for DeepStitched Records, a proudly South African record label. I was tasked to create the EP cover artwork for 'Vol2' by Next Generation. Next Generation is a body of work that DeepStitched Records puts together, once in a while, when they come across exceptional artists that you should be paying attention to. The artwork was used online on streaming sites as well as for promotional content.
For this design, I wanted to show the succession of power from one generation to another. I enjoy drawing birds as they are very symbolic creatures. Symbolism most often associated with birds are; freedom of movement as they roam the heavens and earth; the fragility of human life as well as both positive and negative omens. I feel that their rich association with these topics easily translates to a kind of power that is passed down through generations from one to another similarly to the mantle that this albums featuring artists pass to each other.
Projects where I get to design the cover art for music are among my favourites. This is what I love doing.
