The story of Peter Pan

For this assignment, I made a story illustration based off the tale of Peter pan. I chose this story because I was always obsessed with the story when I was growing up. For the three illustrations, I included one about the romance between Peter Pan and Wendy darling, one about the fight between Peter and Captain Hook, and lastly I did one about Peter Pan leaving Wendy as she decides to leave Neverland and grow up.

First I made the background by merging these images together to create an enchanted forest scenery like the ones the book describes in Neverland. I made a layer mask on the tree layer and I removed the background of that image. Then to add to the enchanted scenery, I enhanced the blue hue and undertone in the two photos. After this I took a twinkling brush that I downloaded and used the dodge brush and placed it around the highlights of the trees.
Then I added Peter Pan and Wendy dancing in the moonlight. I cut a photo out using the pin tool and a layer mask.  Their lighting didn't initially fit the lighting of the background, so I added a curve to the layer and enhanced the blue hue and darkened the shadows and hi lighted the highlights. I also took the dodge and burn tool to enhance the highlights and shadows. I lastly added the pixy dust that allows Wendy to fly using a twinkle star brush. In this piece, I wanted to emphasis how their feelings towards each other were magical because Peter had never wanted to grow up and fall for a girl while Wendy. had always heard of Peter Pan from fairytales and she feels like she is in a dream. This is my final piece:

For my second piece, I illustrated the feud between captain hook and Peter Pan.
First, I took a background of a pirate ship and an island in the back and used it for the background of this piece. I then cut out Peter Pan and Captain Hook using a pin tool and a layer mask. I placed Peter at the top because he can fly and Hook on the deck of the ship. I had to add a sword to Peter because he initially didn't have on in the photo I selected. I took a hand holding a sword and used a layer mask and blended it with the arm in the original photo. To fix the cut outs lighting, I added curves to the layer of Peter and then I just applied a filter to hooks layer.
Next I added tinker bell because she contributed to fighting off Captain Hook because she is Peter pan's wing man. I illustrated tinker bell coming out of captain hooks nose distracting him by using the twinkle brush which shows the path of her pixy dust. I placed her beneath Peter in order to balance the composition. This piece illustrates one of the prominent details of the story, because fighting Hook is one of the key things that is keeping him from growing up. Peter loves to fight Hook and not resolve the issue like an adult would do, and also brings him joy messing with Captain Hook. This pieces helps illustrate the main reason Peter doesn't want to grow up. This is the final product:

The next piece, I illustrated Wendy saying by to Peter along with her childhood.
First, I took a bae window that was opened and used a background of London because that is where they live. I put them together using a layer mask. Then, I took a photo of a sad girl looking out a window longing for something and I cut her out using a pin tool and a layer mask. I flipped the photo horizontally and fixed her lighting in order for her to blend  in with the set up.
Next I cut out a photo of a pirate ship using the quick selection tool. I made the ship gold because it is covered in pixy dust from tinker bell which Peter is returning to Neverland in. I added two pixy dust paths for the ship and tinker bell using the brush I downloaded. I also used the dodge tool and added highlights around the pirate ship to show ti is shining. I also added the Northstar and first star to the right which is Neverland which is where. the ship is pointed towards going. In this illustration, Wendy is giving. up her childhood and saying by to Peter Pan who was a major role in the bedtime stories in her childhood. This shows the theme of growing up and coming of age, because Wendy must move past the things she believed in her childhood along with her imagination. This is the final product:
