Textiles Brochure

This was my response to a 2nd year project at University College Falmouth (Now Falmouth University). The brief was to design a brochure/catalog for the final year students of Textile Design to support their degree show. We had to pitch our ideas to the textile students themselves and the winning design would be used for real. Decisions were made based on design, creativity, budget, pitch, practicality etc.
My design focus was summer bunting. I really wanted to convey a sense of celebration throughout the brochure, as well as a visual style that represents the spirit of the seaside town of Falmouth itself. The geometric backgrounds for each of the disciplines use the style of bunting in its simplest form and reflect pattern and technique used within textile design. The colour palette consists of only 3 colours - 1 for each subject area - and I feel doesn't over power the images of the students work, which of course is the most important part of the brochure.
Simply grouped together with an elastic band. Unites all subject fields together whilst not being too precious, and reflects the tactile hands on nature of a textile design student.
3 introductory postcards featuring words from the course leader, an industry expert and a joyous photograph of Falmouth town.
Textile design at Falmouth splits into 3 specialist subject areas in their final year. I wanted my overall design to unite these subject areas visually, but keep each subjects work individual for curated viewing.
The accordion fold design I went for suits the playful, hands on nature of textile design as well as emphasising my theme of summer bunting. Each individual postcard is perforated along the fold so the viewer can tear off those they enjoy and use them as they wish.
I wanted each mini brochure to work on their own, but then when all brought together as a set create something special.
Each student has their own postcard. An images of their work on the back with the Falmouth logo and on the back is their name, contact details and a brief description of their final project. As the brochures would be handed out at their degree show, I wanted to encourage the use of them for business opportunities.
I really enjoyed this project and am proud of the work, even though I didn't win the pitch. All images of textiles were found on the internet and have solely been used for the mock up of this brochure.
