I wanted to develop a backyard design that incorporated a very high end pool design, yet take into consideration that sometimes the kids would like to play while the parents lounge.
I started with a shape for a gate, or threshold that you have to walk through to get into the garden.  Its inspiration comes from a variety of places, so I can't give any one credit.  There is a fair bit of trimming and pulling to get the shape where I wanted it.  Its right to me.

The threshold gate frames the pool and rear most gate on the raised sun deck.  Its not just a simple archway, but has a raised floor you have to step up onto or over.

Another overall view of the project.  I've included a spa with the pool, with a waterfall overflow into the pool.
An eyelevel view (standing) from the raised deck.  The gates separate the pool deck from a garden/relaxation area beyond. This will allow the kids to play and the parents to relax in their own areas.  The parents can keep an eye on the kids through the gate openings.  I had intended a very lightweight metal mesh material to be used within the gates to allow for air movement.  The mesh would baffle some of the sound and light however.
A water level view towards the relaxation area.  The gates themselves will be powdercoated metal (steel most likely).  The finish level for the welds to be very high.  Foundations will be completely below ground and grass/groundcover to extend directly to bottom of the gates.
The is relaxation garden behind the gates.  As you can see, the pool and deck are visible through the mesh material.  I have not fully specified the relaxation garden area.
The relaxation deck side of the gates shown from above.  I'd also like to note the proposed color progression of the gates.  I tried out several options including just one color.  The monochromatic look didn't work well.  Also, the colors shown had the best harmony with the decking material shown and the pool.  Brighter colors were very harsh to the eye and more muted ones, would wash out during fall and winter too much.
Why is the gate on the raised pool deck open and not meshed?  Because the area behind doesn't need added privacy, it does need defination however.  The furniture selection is recommendation based on the form of the pool.  I only have one lounger shown, but two would be ideal.
