[ MUSEUM SAN ]
The art of light, the power of healing,'Hansol Museum in Tadao Ando'
It is a country style museum built by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando in Hansol Oak Valley, Wonju, Gangwon-do. It took 8 years to build. The exterior decorated with Patin is fresh, and his organs using light and water remain. From the end of October to the beginning of November, the mountains and fields of Gangwon-do harmonize with the autumn feeling.
A museum built over 8 years
The Hansol Museum was designed by Tadao Ando, a world-renowned architect, as is well known. He is a Japanese architect who won the Pritzker Prize, called the Nobel Prize in the architectural world. He is a truck driver and boxer who has a unique background and has never received architectural training, and has many fans in Korea. In particular, after the 1980s, it made remarkable achievements in art museums and religious architecture. His works include the Church of Light and the Church of Water, Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art, and Jichu Museum of Art.
Flower Garden, as its name suggests, is a flower garden. It is 800,000 dianthus flowers that fill the area. In summer, deep pink flowers cover the world. Now it's sparse. Nevertheless, the subtle scent is quite strong. Above the dianthus is the American sculptor Mark di Suvero's 1995 work'For Gerald Manley Hopkins'. It is a dynamic work in red. It is a giant sculpture of 15 meters in height, and the upper part moves when the wind blows.
The birch forest connects the Flower Garden and the Water Garden. Around 360 birch trees border the space and at the same time cause curiosity about the next space. As the water garden approaches, the second red sculpture draws attention. But it also doesn't unveil quickly. The wall blocks as if hiding once again The water garden passes through the waterway, but the view cannot be crossed. After turning around the corner, the Water Garden and the Museum Main Building appear at the same time. On the path through the middle of the pond is the second red sculpture seen from a distance. This is Alexander Lieberman's 1998 work'Archway'. A red cylinder cut at an angle rises from the pond and forms an arch. Pass under it and head to the main building.
The main building is somewhat unexpected. The architectural symbol of Tadao Ando is gray exposed concrete. However, Hansol Museum used Paju-seok from Paju, Gyeonggi-do since the Welcome Center. The main building is also neatly stacked with Paju-seok walls. Thanks to this, it blends more gently with the surrounding natural scenery. Haemiseok from Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do was laid on the bottom of the pond, and the shade of the Pajuseok wall was fine. This is also a feature of Tadao Ando's architecture, which emphasizes the building by using water like a mirror. That's why I spend a long time hanging out in the Water Garden.
