Sustained Investigation 3

For my third sustained investigation, I continued chronologically into the 70s. For this piece, I wanted to showcase the biggest changes and most important things of the decade. I included different aspects such as disco, popular tv shows, movies, music, etc.
My first step was to find a base/background for the piece that I knew I could build off of. I chose this record dripping, because music was a hugely important part of the decade, and I wanted to make sure that that was included in the piece. I chose this 70s style background because I liked the color, and the pattern reminded me of a 70s style wallpaper. I turned down the saturation on the background in order to help the other parts pop more.
I started to add in some TVs with different images of popular 70s phenomenons, including, disco, John Travolta, and the band ACDC. I also wanted to mirror the drip effect on the record, so I began to use the liquify tool to make the TVs appear like they are dripping as well.
I continued the process of adding in TVs with popular 70s things and creating the drip effect until I filled almost all of the edge of the record. Some of the other things I added were, the blue squares for The Brady Bunch, a magazine cover, fashion, and an ad warning about the dangers of smoking. All of these things are things from the 70s that were important and had a great influence on the rest of decade and going into the 80s.
My final step was to add two disco balls on either side of the record because I needed to add something else that was interesting to the piece, and I wanted to incorporate more about disco into the piece. I really like how this piece turned out because the TVs are super cool and I like how they incorporate different aspects of life in the 70s.
