P5 - Outside the Box

For this project, we were tasked with creating the packaging for a box of cereal. It was our job to select three adjectives that would be used as guides for the overall look and feel of the cereal boxes. The success of our designs were based on how well they encompassed these descriptors through the use of expressive typography. A mix of analog and digital techniques were used to create these designs.

The final designs are presented below on mockups (both physical and digital), and if you're interested in seeing any of my process images for this project, please click here.
Shown above are my designs for the box that emphasizes the attribute "Energy." A combination of color and hand-generated type evokes an upbeat and playful nature that points back to the design's attribute. Expressive, hand-lettered typography was used on the front cover to tug on the viewer's attention.

These designs emphasize the attribute "Confidence." Again, typography was carefully considered and selected in order to communicate the quality; large, bold type on the front demands attention with the utmost confidence. The layout on the back combines an understanding of typography with a comfortable confidence to add a degree of expression.

Shown here is my box design emphasizing the characteristic "Order." An underlying grid structure and a black and white color scheme makes for a final design that feels organized and unassuming. A monospaced typeface was chosen for the body copy, which compliments the systematic nature of the box.

The front and back designs maintain an alignment that creates order not only on the individual sides, but also across the entire box. Headings are pulled out using a bolder type set at the same size, maintaining a sense of structure.
Above are two images of the constructed box and how it might look if seen in its normal context; among the rest of your pantry and grocery items.
