Regency Period Dress

Regency Period Dress
During the Regency era that goes from 1795 to 1837, the 19th-century fashion was very much inspired by the English rural lifestyle that was moving towards greater freedom and simplicity. Empire silhouette dresses, with the fitted bodice ending just below the bust, became famous in this period, transparencies and puffed sleeves were common choices among women.
The choice, that years later would be considered a bold style transition, was a reference to feminine representations of Greco-Roman art. Today, this silhouette is still widely seen in adaptations of Jane Austen’s books and history, as seen on films like “Emma”, “Becoming Jane” and “Pride and Prejudice”.

I designed, cut and made the dress seen in the photos, thinking of a costume for an adaptation of the author’s books.
