Creative Strategies Project

In this project I selected one simple, everyday object. The object I chose was a wooden spoon. Using the wooden spoon, I develop one visual concept for each of the 7 creative strategies.

Creative Strategies
Combinations: Combining 2 different but often related objects to create a new object.
Juxtaposition: Combining/comparing 2 objects that are opposites or not related to each other.
Isolation: Forces the viewer to focus on the key item by separating it from other pieces of the design.
Metaphor or Simile: Combining 2 unrelated objects to symbolize an idea or purpose of an object.
Change of Context/Environment: Place an item in a generally unrelated, contrasting environment to communicate an idea.
Physical/Shape Similarity: Combine 2 items that are physically similar, but generally unrelated to create a new object.
Material Change/Swap/Focus: Create one object using another generally unrelated item.
Combinations
Combining 2 different but often related objects to create a new object.

In this concept, I combined the wooden spoon with the hilt of a sword. This communicates the similarity that both of these items are extremely powerful when used in the correct setting.
Juxtaposition
Combining/comparing 2 objects that are opposites or not related to each other.

In this concept, I compare the large wooden spoon to a standard fork. Both useful for their own tasks but when swapped they would be almost useless. It would be very difficult to stir a bowl of soup with a fork.
Isolation
Forces the viewer to focus on the key item by separating it from other pieces of the design.

In this concept I surrounded the spoon by other kitchen utensils that have a very different use. The difference in use as well as the color and materials of the items makes the spoon stand out.
Metaphor or Simile
Combining 2 unrelated objects to symbolize an idea or purpose of an object.

In this concept I have shown the spoon "growing" out of a tree to communicate the craftsmanship of the item. Each spoon is checked over for perfection so you know exactly what to expect.
Change of Context/Environment
Place an item in a generally unrelated, contrasting environment to communicate an idea.

In this concept I replaced the swords in the sword fight with the wooden spoon. Similar to the combination concept, this shows the similarities between the 2. A sword and a wooden spoon are both very powerful when used in the correct context and in the correct way.
Physical/Shape Similarity
Combine 2 items that are physically similar, but generally unrelated to create a new object.

In this concept I have replaced the conductors baton with the wooden spoon to show the shape similarities between the items. I think this beings a comedic element into the design which often helps a design to stand out.
Material Change/Swap/Focus
Create one object using another generally unrelated item.

In this concept I swapped the spaghetti noodles and the spoon. I have the spoon made of spaghetti noodles which is a very odd concept to think about. Those noodles are always thought of a very frail think and never as a cooking utensil.
This was a very creative and informative projects which helped me to appreciate the brainstorming much more then I have in the past.
