ombrowicz Festival

GF is a festival focused on Witold Gombrowicz writing, it's organized every two years. Main activities are discussions, theater plays, workshops, group reading, concerts and lectures – I prepared a poster for each of them.

Challenge
To show dynamics and complexity of Witold Gombrowicz philosophy in visual language and encourage people to engage in the festival activities.

Solution
Gombrowicz believed that objective reality exists (I show it as white), but there is always "a form" which actively makes it look different, transforms the truth and shows us only "the mask" of the reality – I represent it as a black. The idea of color metaphor came from Gombrowicz himself, he used green color in his novels to point out that at the particular moment "the form" is changing something or somebody, the more green the environment, the more changeable the thing or the person was. So, spotted green is a big part of festival's visual language too.

Torn calendar
One of the best known writings of Gombrowicz are his diaries. He described there in details what his conception of the world is, how we communicate with each other, and who is always the most important person in this process. He begins his diary with words: "Monday Me. Tuesday Me. Thursday Me. Wednesday Me. Friday...". So to respect that, I made a festival torn calendar with a name of a day and a word "ja" instead of a date, which is a polish word for "me".

Building the scene for an idea
I've build the festival stand which was a 4x4m box with a main goal to catch peoples attention in a crowded place and show them the festival's offer. Budget was tight but we managed.

White floor makes sense here for a several reasons. First of all it stands out and really intrigue people. Second, it builds consistency of a festival's visual language of course! And last but not least – when people come in, they left their footprints on the floor which is a visual representation of a "form", their impact on the festival.

Thanks!
