History records that Islam came to the archipelago in a peaceful way without war. The sublime and gentle face of Islam has gradually gained influence in the hearts of the people. Starting from trade relations, marriage, education and eventually becoming a political force.

Islam became increasingly entrenched with the political power of the sultanates in important urban centers but did not necessarily eradicate pre-existing religions and cultures.
