Pipestone National Monument

For hundreds of years a 300 acre plot of land has been the site of one of the most important and sacred active Native American Pipe-making quarries. In 1937, Congress designated that land as a national monument--Pipestone National Monument.

We had the opportunity to rethink the Pipestone National Monument logo, which is used to complement national parks branding. This logo is used primarily on merchandise and 'friends of' communications.

We were given very clear directives by the park staff. We were not to use any imagery about pipes and they specifically want to focus on the stone quarry‘s rather than the prairie land that the park also protects. The logo would need to serve all of the various tribes that use the space.
