Al-Medina (or Sadr City) is a town in Baghdad, Iraq which suffers from major urban problems, such as high population density, inadequate services, and poor health and living conditions. those harsh circumstances left a generation exhausted by war with a growing conviction that Iraq deserves much better than what is given.
The competition asks for a Youth House and a public plaza welcoming visitors from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds will serve as a platform to exchange ideas and aspirations without restrictions.
المدينة (أو مدينة الصدر) هي مدينة في بغداد ، العراق تعاني من مشاكل حضرية كبرى ، مثل الكثافة السكانية العالية ، والخدمات غير الملائمة ، وسوء الأحوال الصحية والمعيشية. تركت تلك الظروف القاسية جيلاً منهكًا بالحرب مع اقتناع متزايد بأن العراق يستحق أفضل بكثير مما يُعطى.

Growth design concept focuses on revitalizing social ownership over public spaces. Al-Medina was planned without considering its unique people, resulting in alienating them from their spaces. Growth design suggestion seeks to redeem this by having Al-Medina people build Al-Medina, the design merely provides tools and gives local communities the freedom to grow their spaces according to daily needs.

These tools include Brick and clay tiles production units to locally produce the construction components, Productive gardens to grow Vegetable, and two main adaptable spaces to host all activities such as weddings, Ashura reacting, Muharram cooking, and Ramadan breakfast.

"The jury commended this project and its objective to empower user ownership. They found the presentation to be thorough and complete in its addressing of engagement with the youth. The judges thought that the project's central recognition connects with the city very successfully, and they appreciated the roofing and modularity of the project. The jury felt that this project illustrates spaces that can be used in real ways, while also being very constructible without falling into nostalgic forms. However, they questioned the use of the wall around the project, and if this contradicts its powerful central premise. Regardless, the judges found the canopied route that stretches across the site to be very welcoming and successful in separating the spaces while bringing them together at the same time.”
