36 Days of Type is a yearly challenge that encourages graphic designers, illustrators, letterers and artists of any medium to reinterpret the Latin alphabet in their own way. Participants must create a letter each day for 36 days (including numbers 0-9). The challenge is aimed at showing how different people can interpret the same letterforms in completely unique and creative ways.

I decided to take on the challenge in 2020 as a means to stretch my design and illustration skills and, as a big lover of typography, see how far I could take my lettering skills. I decided to focus on a specific bank of colors to help anchor the entire designed alphabet together, but left the rest of the design up to whatever inspiration struck that day.

Below is the final grid of all letters and single-digit numbers. I created these mainly in Illustrator and Procreate, and used Photoshop at times for some details.
I went one extra and decided to create an ampersand as well; I was inspired by graffiti and street art to create this character completely in Procreate.
Additionally, I wanted to stretch my skills a little further and apply some subtle animation in After Effects, making the "2" a little more dynamic in two different ways.
