A Millennial's Utopia: Architecture Caricatures of Political Systems
What would an ideal utopia be for a millennial? Surely one where restlessness is provided, in which movement is enabled. During a workshop I led with Anna Zsoldos for the BME's Architecture College, we developed our own utopia of an island complex where the inhabitants can freely try out and move between five different state systems: Capitalism, Communism, Monarchy, National Socialism and Anarchy. With each system enabling the other to work, peace can be taken granted for. However, as a reminder of the destruction that war can bring, there is an island is the center of this utopia with a ruin symbolising the dangers of conflict. So surrounding this small island are the other political systems in a form of a ring of further islands.
We chose to depict these various systems with caricatures of their typical architecture and urban planning.
