Poster Design - Social Justice and Racial Equality

Submissions to the Local Language Community Poster Contest. The Community Poster program seeks to provide a platform and resources for artists in the community via fine art prints (protest posters) distributed for free to progressive organizations and the community at large.
I created three pieces that center around intersectional feminism, minority solidarity, and housing crisis.
I recently read Mikki Kendall’s Hood Feminism, to quote her, “feminism should be a movement that represents all women, not just the ones who already have their needs met.” The social issues displayed on the poster form both a female sign and a mirror. I want the poster to evoke some sort of self-reflection in the viewer. The protea flower on the bottom also signifies diversity and courage.

Being an Asian immigrant myself, I made this poster in light of recent anti-Asian hate crimes. Minorities must stand together to fight back racism and white supremacy. The painting in the poster is a reproduction of the Matisse masterpiece, the Dance.

I want to raise people’s awareness on the Bay Area housing crisis. The Bay is becoming more expensive to live every day and our rate of homelessness is also on the rise. We need more zoning reform and affordable housing in the Bay. I hope for more people showing empathy, not just accepting this is what the Bay is like.
