Nicholas Barkley is an eight-year old badger who also happens to be an intrepid adventurer, seasoned shadow-fighter, and Cub Scout.

He always has his red knapsack with him. On this adventure, he brought his bug net and packed: a peanut butter and butter sandwish, a canteen of applejuice, a pickled egg, matches snitched from the kitchen, a flashlight, a magnifying glass, a green crayon, the newest edition of Creek and Hill, his Cub Scout bandanna (khaki with the Scout seal and his initials on the right border), some interesting stones he picked up, 37 cents, some acorns, and some string.
