Sasuke From Naruto

I've always been a pretty big Anime fan. Naruto being one of those favourite anime's, so when watching the intro for Shippuden one day, I noticed a cool sequence with Sasuke entangled in snakes and I decided I wanted to recreate it in Illustrator.
So I started off with some basic line work which I hand traced from multiple screenshots I took of the segment in which this scene appears, then adjusted the weightings and profiles.
After blocking out some big colours in the live pain feature of illustrator, I then (for the most part) used a black layer on top to carve out the shadows by using the curvature tool and dropping the opacity.
After that I created the Sharingan eye behind Sasuke's head to add a 'Halo' effect that's often found in a lot of classic paintings of religious figures.
Then adding a dark back ground and a some colour blocking to create a 'Banner' type of vibe.
Spent between 8-9 hours on this just trying some new stuff and working what would look good. Hope you enjoy!
