Sultana Craft foot stool and storage unit

A Sultana Craft multipurpose Foot Stool and Storage Unit

Sultana craft is an old traditional dying art of Rajasthan, India.  It is a metal craft that is created by the processes of wire wrapping and weaving.

It is an aesthetic and extremely usable form of craft. It is created by using various techniques with minimal materials.
After working on your design, a skeleton is created . This skeleton is made of wrought iron, here steel, and is joined by welding. Different techniques of wire wrapping are used to cover the skeleton.
Here copper wire is used to secure and weave the black yarn around the different sides of the hexagon.

Process/ideation sketches

Firstly, steel wire was cut and welded to form the wireframe in a hexagonal shape.
After the wireframe has been welded and cooled down, copper wire is coiled around small rectangular paper pieces and then wrapped around each joint of hexagonal wireframe, as shown below. Then any yarn (here black wool) is wrapped around each face of the wireframe and secured with copper wire. After the wrapping was complete, a base and a lid was made out of compressed wood, with a red laminate hexagonal in shape.
