Burma Shave: a rather unique advertising campaign in the 1960’s.
The task: was to create our own version of the Burma Shave technique by choosing a quote that ended in a four letter word. With this quote as the theme, pictures were to be gathered and refined using a color palette of our choice and to work with a font from a list of pre-approved ones.
My Quote: “Tower, this is Ghost Rider requesting flyby...That’s a negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.” (Top Gun)
My reason for choosing the quote: Most of the guys in my family are military or used to be, including my father. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force and was deployed to Afghanistan for six months. Growing up in a military family meant I always felt safe, was guided by strong moral principles and the simple rule “if you’re on time, you’re late.” While growing up my father introduced me to Top Gun, an amazing movie about fighter pilots in the Navy. Ever since then, it has been one of my favorite movies. So when presented with the opportunity to create a double-gate fold centered around a quote, all I could hear was the iconic line “That’s a negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.”
Using related imagery, a patriotic color palette and italicized font to show movement, I present the very special Burma Shave project.
(Thank you to all the men and women who have served and the family members who supported them)
here is a link to my Dropmark which shows the original imagery, and other ones I was considering.
