To design the cover and the interior of Jane Austen's Emma, I first researched the main concept of the story as well as other design work based off of this book. I wanted to created a more modern and playful look to present the story in a new light. The majority of my research explored the facets of the main character, Emma, and her selfish, match-making nature. In order to determine the size of the cover, I began with building out the main body of the book, and incorporated a consistent, bold typeface to peak reader interest. From there, I created the cover. The cover encapsulates the personality characteristics of Emma as well as her role in the story. Overall, I've learned about the many interesting facets of publication design, and I hope to continue designing more books in the future.
