On my third and last year of my Product Design bachelor's degree I had a proposal that consisted in designing a product for a brand that has nothing to do with that family of products. I chose to model a turntable for Polaroid. Two years later I decided to redesign that same project.
The biggest selling point of the old Polaroid cameras was that they could be used by anyone, no matter age or experience with photographic equipment. That said, the design of the WheelTone turntable intends to be as simple, intuitive and easy-to-use - much like the old Polaroid cameras were.
This project also takes inspiration from Wheel (Miniot's minimalistic turntable), Gesa Oeljeschläger's RP-B1 Turntable design and Dieter Rams TP1 for Braun especially in it's usage of an hidden tonearm.
The play/pause button is directly inspired from the Polaroid One-Step Land Camera.
