It is a book about house-elf adventures written by Tatyana Alexandrovna. It was one of my favourite books from childhood. 

One of the most hard things was not to copy the characters from the cartoon or the old book illustrations.

 

I wanted Kusya to be cute and looks little as he is not an old elf.

Kusya was found by little girl, who moved to a new house. She started to care about Kusya and he made her life more interesting and not so lonely. He told her his story about how his previous house was burned and he ran into the forest, where found new friends. Kusya had a little magic box, that will tell a tale if you put a picture in it.
