Railowsky, photography book store. An identity.

Railowsky is the name of a library specializing in photography based in Valencia which, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary, proposed giving EASD students an opportunity to change its identity. The bookshop, despite its large catalog and its own gallery, is owner-managed, offering a discreet and personalised service to its clients and with no intentions of changing that. Also, it is important to mention the origin of the name itself: Railowsky was the name on a circus banner that appeared in a Cartier Bresson's photograph, the one with a man jumping into a large puddle. This man was adopted as Railowsky's symbol becoming, for sentimental reasons, extremely important to the owner.

Taking this a starting point, with zero budget and no intervention whatsoever allowed in the store, the goal was to develop a communication strategy that could relaunch Railowsky's image.
The idea presented was based in those basic pillars which are: Photography and Books. Developing this concept a conclusion was reached: Alphabet is to books as diaphragms are to photography, one can not be complete without the other. The combination of those basic elements created a language for Railowsky to communicate and being identifiable in any application necessary. Besides, the "jumping man" was redesign and presented as a visual complement that could balance the hardness of the new alphabet created for Railowsky.

Finally, the identity was proposed to be applied using nothing more than stamping, creating a flexible system adaptable to any needs in the daily life of the bookstore with no printing investment whatsoever.
