Centennial is a typeface created in 1986 by Adrian Frutiger. This type specimen book was inspired by the surf scene throughout the 1970s and the 1980s. This time period was a bright and funky era, ranging from a punk style to bohemian.  The neon design elements and checkerboard patterns represent the rebel lifestyles of these surfers. Mixed with some lighter design elements, the collage elements are used to represent the free-spirited state of mind this community went through life with and the new trends they set. By using a combination of these styles throughout the book, it demonstrates how versatile the typeface Centennial is and how much it can be used for.
