Survival Guide
The purpose of this project was to create a survival guide for the Art and Design program at my school, The University of Southern Mississippi. You'll notice that my school's signature colors, black and gold, are not included. Because, frankly, after 4 years, I was over it.
Layering
My main goal with this project was to play around with the idea of layering, so this is heavily inspired by Foreign Policy's work. Each BFA has its own saddle-stapled booklet, and each booklet breaks down every required class and every professor that teaches those classes. I even polled fellow students to create reviews of each class and professor, including their "Rate My Professor" rating.
There is a smaller booklet explaining the foundations level classes, a flyer explaining USM's BA program, and a folded poster on the front of the cover that serves as the label of the entire booklet. If you unfold it, it becomes a map of the art buildings.
The photos included are film photos of both art buildings that I took and got developed, that serve as reference photos for potential new students. They also serve to add to the "layering" theme I was playing around with for the entire survival guide.
I really loved the idea that all of these pieces would be held within a single folder that could be taken apart and rearranged as need be. It would be customized as it suited any student. And, for me, "survival guide" feels military, so the green color of the folder is inspired by that.
