Whiplash Film Poster

Whiplash Film Poster

For my final project for year 1. We were tasked to create a film poster. I chose the film 'Whiplash'. The film feels very intense & overwhelming, and I wanted to go for a dark theme. I used Adobe Photoshop & my Huion pen-tablet to create the final outcome.

Why did I choose this film?

The reason why I’ve chosen this film is that I can relate to the message of the movie, minus the abusive/strict instructor part. As a musician and a design student, I must always keep improving and pushing to be the best I can be. Hearing the word ‘Good Job’ is the worst, as it will make us think we have the highest level of skills and we will not improve.

About the story

Andrew Neiman played by Miles Teller is an ambitious young jazz drummer, in pursuit of rising to the top of his elite music conservatory. Terence Fletcher played by J.K. Simmons, a jazz instructor known for his terrifying teaching methods, discovers Andrew and transfers the aspiring drummer into the top jazz ensemble, forever changing the young man's life. But Andrew's passion to achieve perfection quickly spirals into obsession, as his ruthless teacher pushes him to the brink of his ability and his sanity.
