Take A Deep Breathe- A Mental Health Guide Zine

Design Brief
Design, mock-up and produce a small run of short hard-copy printed zine-style booklets to showcase the UC student experience as an orientation tool for the Visual Communications degree.

My print production project, Take A Deep Breath is designed to help students at the University of Canberra struggling with their mental health. This zine promotes the mental health services provided to students at the University of Canberra. This information will be useful to a diverse range of students as mental health affects all students. I decided to focus my project on mental health as it is an issue that is so important but does not get the attention and focus that it needs. Not all students are aware of the services available at UC and do not know what to do when they experience mental health difficulties. My project aims to showcase Medical and Counselling and easily link students with their services.

I was inspired by a range of punk and Riot Grrrl movements and the DIY nature of them. People used whatever methods where available to them to spread important messages through art. I used a paper texture on my main purple background to showcase a distressed look. I also added some ripped paper images with a leather texture on them to add a sense that this zine was used and a bit damaged.

I received a High Distinction (86%) for this assignment.
