Seven Creative Strategies
For our first project we were assigned the task of creating a series of designs that demonstrated our understanding of seven creative strategies. Those strategies are combination, juxtaposition, isolation, metaphor or simile, change of context or environment, physical / shape similarity, and material change, swap, or focus. To do this we had to choose an object to insert into our designs. I chose a daisy.
CATEGORY: COMBINATION
TITLE: "BLOOMING WITH TALENT"
Combination is a strategy where you combine two unrelated objects to make a new object that still makes some sort of sense. I chose to use a flower as her tutu.
CATEGORY: JUXTAPOSITION
TITLE: "PETAL TO THE METAL"
Juxtaposition is when you bring together to unrelated objects and show the differences between the two.
CATEGORY: ISOLATION
TITLE: "ONE OF A KIND"
Isolation is a strategy where the focus is placed on an object because it is different from the items surrounding it.
CATEGORY: METAPHOR OR SIMILE
TITLE: "FLOWER POWER"
Metaphor and simile are more focused on the meaning of the image as it relates to something else.
CATEGORY: CHANGE OF CONTEXT OR ENVIRONMENT
TITLE: "BLOOM WHERE YOU'RE PLANTED"
Change of context or environment places objects in places where you wouldn't normally see them to communicate an idea.
CATEGORY: PHYSICAL / SHAPE SIMILARITY
TITLE: "ALONG FOR THE RIDE"
Physical / Shape Similarity focuses on how objects are similar to demonstrate connections.
CATEGORY: MATERIAL CHANGE, SWAP OR FOCUS
TITLE: "FUN IN THE SUN"
Material change, swap, or focus swaps out an item and puts something you wouldn't normally see there in its place.
