Unpicking the Grid
'Virgil Abloh'
Magazine Spread
This magazine spread employs what I think is two different sans serif typefaces. One of them I believe is Helvetica, as Virgil uses this within the logo of his brand " OFF-WHITE". The use of such sleek and modern typefaces are successful within this magazine as the subject matter is a modern fashion designer and streetwear brand.

The spread starts off with the name 'Virgil Abloh' set vertically in a red fill. This draws readers first and thus we can presume the man in photo adjacent to the text is Virgil and article will be about him. The structure then attracts the eye to the big red 'W' signifying the start of the body text. Some extra information is also included within the spread in the grey text. The big 'OFF-WHITE' text brings a lot of attention to the page and readers can then be drawn to the photo of Virgil on the second page.

A multi-coloumn structure with 3 columns was used throughout both pages of the spread. The length of the photo and heading helped determine the amount of columns to be used to for the body text and extra info. This was then translated into the next second page in the same way for symmetry.

Overall I think the composition of the elements on the spread are very good. It is very modern and minimal and captures the subject matter well. The text is easy to read and the different graphical elements help bring attention to the article.
