Poster & Research - CANOPIC JARS

Assignment brief:

Research and study an element of Ancient Egypt to come up with a contemporary product/ graphic design for the same.

I chose to look into the Canopic Jars and design a poster for a hypothetical event- day 3 of the mummification ceremony of Nefertiti, one of the greatest queens of Ancient Egypt when her organs would have been transferred into Canopic jars.
The ancient Egyptians believed highly in afterlife and had an amazing belief system around death. The concept of mummification is very well known to everyone. It involved a lot of equipment and practices- Canopic jars were just one of them.
Pharaohs and other important Egyptians were buried with these jars, so that when they were reborn in the afterlife, they would become whole again with all of their body parts intact.

Even if they might not have been the most factually correct beliefs, these jars have proved to be very useful to study the anatomy, diseases and other biological aspects of people in the bronze age. Apart from that they are extremely beautiful artifacts giving evidence to dig into a mysterious and fascinating civilization and their ideologies.

Here is a detailed research on Canopic Jars.
