This is a unofficial design created for a school project.

Redux

The Redux Project was a store wayfinding signage design project where I designed signs based off of a hardware store using a rubber hammer, screwdriver, and wrench. I sketched the objects with the intention of emphasizing their highlights and shadows. Then I tried four reductive drawing methods on one object, the screwdriver. I created a silhouette of the screwdriver, a silhouette of the screwdriver with shadows only and leaving the highlights as white space, drew the screwdriver with only squares on grid paper, and drew the screwdriver on grid paper using squares, triangles, convex arcs, and concave arcs. I chose to apply the second method, because it’s easy to see the form of the object through light and shadow, and the fourth method, because it was an interesting abstract way of visualizing an object, to the hammer and wrench. Then I Image Traced and cleaned up the light and shadow drawings and used the rectangle tool and pathfinder for the gridded drawings to create icons of each object. I chose to move forward with the light and shadow drawings because it was easier to see them as what they’re supposed to be. I went with warm colors to resemble a hardware store and chose layouts where the words can follow the edges of the objects in a way where it looked unifying and with that I had my final signages.
