RURAL HOST FOR URBAN GUEST

Group project made on 3rd year in my B.A. studies in Interior Design
Rural Host for Urban Guest
California Bakery required us to redesign their bakery in City Life, Milano. In the debriefing we saw the need of adapting the space in the idea of having it open all day. To maximize the current services but making a more seamless experience. Strengthen the outlook of the brand & place, so it is aligned with its values and services.
We wanted to create a seamless experience for every user, but still keep the curiosity to make another visit, create a different atmosphere from morning to midday to evening. Merging Grab n' Go, corporate & hang out - a personalized space that works for all the needs of the community.

Our concept was Rural Host for Urban Guest.
A place where the rural Californian aesthetics & urban Milanese lifestyle unite the user.
The rural is the homemade food, the Italian nonna’s recipes, American traditional countryside way of cooking, with love for pastries, cakes & having a big menu all day, this reflected into the design of the space. The tangible aspects.
The urban is expressed through Milanese urban lifestyle, understanding the needs of each individual, from rare time together with family, Italian culture of Aperitivo, but also the American Grab n’ Go & take away, way of life, the in-tangible aspects.

All made with Love..
Entrance view of the store.
The brand's vision is mixing two cultures, American & Italian. We made sure the interior could be arranged to celebrate American holidays.
One of the protagonists of the project was the triangle shaped bookshelf, inspired by a piece of cheesecake & the shape of the restaurant building. The triangle divides the space, encourages flow & creates different levels of privacy. It also serves as visual merchandise for alternative brand products.
We focused on creating multiple journeys for each customer in order to find "his spot".
By reaching the mezzanine the guest is welcomed by the warm & textured wall made of sisal, translating the brand's Pic-Nic baskets as well for sound absorbing. There are different seat options available: from the bar stools to study & have a quick coffee to lounge chairs to enjoy long brunch.
