These works were inspired by a single shot from "John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness," released in 1987. In the shot a character who has just leapt through a mirror portal into the "other realm," desperately reaches out as the portal is closed.

The shot haunts years after I first saw the film. In fact, it's the only horror film that genuinely gets under my skin. I purchased the Blu-Ray as I was working on these images so I could exorcise that fear. But I still can't get past halfway through the film.

The idea of being trapped somewhere with no hope of escape really terrifies me. Perhaps I feel especially trapped in my life at the moment. Not even at a cross-roads. Just in a space with no roads. Motionless. Drowning.
